Ben

Detroit MI

The state of Michigan is a no fault state that is the reason why it a bit quiet complicated than the others but still not difficult for first time buyer of car insurance to understand.

You can get sr22 insurance in most insurance providers in Michigan. It would be best if you go to an insurance company that you already know. But if you are not familiar of any car insurance companies in the state of Michigan, you have to be careful when choosing. Some insurance company might sell you an SR22 at a very costly price since you need it immediately. In Michigan the cost of getting an SR22 insurance is not cheap since you will be classified as a high risk driver. You will need to purchase from from a reputable companies that specialize in this kind of insurance. Reader’s Question:

I have been getting very high priced insurance quotes here in  Michigan from multiple companies online and offline. What should I do so that insurance companies will give me lower car insurance quotes? Should I get a lower rate because I am a female?  Do they offer discounts for that?

Geraldine

Detroit, MI

Car insurance companies may be giving you pretty high insurance quotes due to several things. First, you may have a car with a big engine. Having such can affect your car female insurance quote Michigan because car insurance companies regard cars with big engines as a high risk vehicle. When you have a car with a big engine, it means you are at risk of driving fast which can result to you being involved in a car collision. Be content with a smaller car instead because this is less likely to be involved in a car accident.

You should also install security devices on your vehicle so that you can get a lower
car female insurance quote Michigan. Security devices like immobilizers, alarm and brake systems will make your car a low risk vehicle to most vehicle insurers.

Clean up your credit standing and show an impressive credit record. Pay your bills on time so that your credit standing will improve. Insurers like to give discounts to car owners who have good credit ratings since it assures them that these owners will pay their premiums on time.

Used Car Insurance Rates in Michigan

Reader’s Question:

I’m thinking of buying a used car, and I’m afraid that the car’s previous owner might not be telling me the whole truth about everything the car gone through. He’s planning on moving to the West Coast, and I live here in Grand Rapids, Michigan, so there’s no way of reaching him if anything happens. Is there any way to get his car insurance records? I just want to make sure.

Herbert

Grand Rapids, MI

I’m sure that trying to get a person’s insurance records would constitute an illegal act according to state and federal laws. I wouldn’t want anybody trying to get information about me. I’m sure you wouldn’t that, too. I would consider that an invasion of my privacy. Besides, even if you call the previous owner’s auto insurance company, they’d have no valid reason to give it to you because their obligation is to the previous owner, not to you. As soon as he sells his car, the car insurance company’s responsibility already ends there. But if he’s planning to move to the West Coast, chances are is he may have already terminated his car insurance policy before selling it to you. Some car insurance companies may be able to help you, though, if you explain thoroughly the reason why you want the records. Yours is a legitimate reason, I think. If you are lucky, you may be able to have the previous owner’s coverage and whatever claims he may have made photocopied. Just make sure you ask for information about the car that you’re going to buy and not any other cars that the previous owner may have owned when he was still living there in Grand Rapids, MI.

Should I Add My Teenager To My Auto Insurance Policy in Michigan?

Reader’s Question:

My legal aged son has moved out of my house in Battle Creek, MI to live over at the apartment of his friend’s parents. The thing is, he hasn’t changed the address on his driver’s license and he’s currently driving their car. Another thing that’s been bothering me is he wants to buy a car and wants to insure it using my name. Any information regarding my situation would be greatly appreciated.

Mary

Battle Creek, MI

Insuring vehicles that belong to other people are allowed by some car insurance companies even if you have no “insurable interest” in it. However, I’ve never heard of any car insurance company that allows people to insure vehicles from more than one household. If a vehicle owner decides to move elsewhere with his car, like your son, moving out of Battle Creek MI, chances are, the car insurance company will not cover the vehicle’s insurance. As for your other inquiry, if your son is going to drive for his friend’s parents , they should list him as driver on their car insurance policy for them not to have the risk of getting denied car insurance services if ever he gets involved in a car accident.

Will Auto Insurance Policy in Michigan Cover Out of State Claim?

Reader’s Question:

In a couple of months, I am planning to move to PA. My present address is in Battle Creek, MI where my family lives and I intend to keep my car insurance here. My dad told me that my insurance policy won’t be honored once I moved to PA and if ever I get into an accident, he can be sued? Is this true?

Nicole

Battle Creek, MI

First thing you have to do is to speak with your car insurance agent regarding your plan to move to Pennsylvania. The car insurer can tell you if you would still remain on your dad’s policy but usually the answer is no. In cases where you move away from home, especially out of state, and since the car is no longer garaged at the household address listed on the policy, an insurance provider will likely no longer carry you and the vehicle on the current policy.

Normally, car insurance companies will follow the limits set by the state where you’re operating a vehicle in cases where you are only visiting or are driving through a state and not when you have moved there for good. If you fail to inform your insurance company regarding moving out of state, or properly changing your coverages over to PA insurance, this would likely be taken as misrepresentation by the Michigan insurer which is a form of auto insurance fraud and is a reason to deny your insurance claims.

If your car insurance did not accept the claim and/or if your car insurance limits were too low and exceeded, your father, both you as the driver and your father as the car owner could be held liable and sued. Your father may face a serious liability putting his assets at risk so make sure that your liability limits are sufficiently high enough.

Which Cars Are Cheaper To Get Insurance in Michigan?

Reader’s Question:

I would like to know if there are cars which are very easy and cheaper to get insured in Michigan?

Kathleen

Ann Arbor, MI

Certainly there are, Kathleen!

It’s very interesting to note that aside from driving history with spotless record, the type of your car, sticker price, cost to repair the vehicle, replacement value, safety features, and how well you car will withstand an accident, are also factors that car insurance companies weigh to get you insured easily.

I can give you top 10 least expensive cars to insure in Michigan which have a sticker price of less than $50,000. In no particular order, these top 10 cars are: Oldsmobile Silhouette, Pontiac Montana, Saturn L Series Wagon, Chrysler PT Cruiser, Saturn L Series Sedan, Chevrolet Venture, Chevrolet Astro, Saturn Vue, Jeep Wrangler, and Oldsmobile Bravada.

The rule of thumb is: the larger the cars and trucks, the easier and cheaper it is to insure…as long as they do not do any heavy damage to other vehicles in case of accident. Rates will definitely increase if you total another person’s vehicle. Car insurance will fluctuate as time passes. If a new car hits the market, car insurance companies will normally examine how the vehicle performs in crash tests, as well as check the average payout on accident claims. Durability of the vehicle also matters and most car insurance companies base that on basin maintenance and repair costs.

Michigan SR22 For Non Owner

Reader question:

I am the owner of a Sterling Heights Michigan SR22 policy for non owners. I have been paying on this policy for several months, but the amount I pay just seems to high. How can a non owner driver save a buck?

Jim

Thanks for asking, Jim.

While I have to admit there are many times more ways for someone who has their own vehicle to save money on their car insurance, car insurance companies, especially ones that offer Sterling Heights Michigan policies for non owners, do not completely ignore those who operate vehicles which are not their own. A lot of the discounts and savings need vehicles, but there are still others open to you:

  • This is a simple one: pare down your coverage do the minimum that Michigan requires, and your Sterling Heights Michigan SR22 premiums will cost less
  • Switch companies for one of your insurances. If your auto insurance company offers life insurance, move your life insurance there, so you can get the multi policy saving
  • Compare rates online before settling for a non owner insurance company

Cheers,

Fashun
