Buying sr22 insurance is like buying other things. That means, you need to shop around to be able to find the best deal. Shopping means asking for as many sr22 quote in Michigan as you can so that you will have enough choices in your hands before deciding on which company to buy your sr22. In order to get an sr22 quote in Michigan you will need to ask insurance companies in the area. You can tell them why you need it so that they can also help you. Just be careful that no to be forced into buying it from the first insurer to give you an sr22 quote in Michigan. There are insurance agents who will exploit your situation to force you into buying an expensive coverage. That’s why shopping will help you avoid paying exorbitant costs. You can also buy an sr22 from the online sites of insurance companies.

Based on studies, prices online are lower since insurers make a lot of savings when clients buy using their websites. The same could be true for an sr22. Just compare the quotes thoroughly as well as the insurers’ reputation in terms of services and claims processing. It’s no good buying an inexpensive sr22 when the insurer’s customer service is lousy.

Can I Use an International Drivers License In Michigan?

Reader’s Question:

I will be staying in Clinton, Michigan, will I be needing US drivers license to insure my vehicle for just three to six months? Can I use my international drivers license to drive in Michigan?

Robert

Clinton, MI

If you are going to purchase an insurance policy in Clinton Michigan you should expect to have an US driver’s license or obtain one for you to be be insured in the US.

It may be possible auto insurance companies that will sell you a policy you in the United States using your international drivers license, but many insurance carriers would require you to get a drivers license in the state you live in, (in your case, in Michigan) before buying car insurance or within thirty days after getting insurance coverage.

I am not aware of any specific insurance company that allow this but when getting a car insurance quote online (you can begin here by typing your zip code! it is free!) and check if there is an option to list if you have an international license or you can shop around in Clinton Michigan for insurance carriers that allow this.

Some insurance carriers will likely require you to have a drivers license or in the process of getting a US drivers license. It is wise to start getting car insurance quotes now so you may know how much car insurance you should expect to pay when you get here and purchase insurance.

Reader’s Question:

I am wondering if the state of Michigan has an SR-22 Bond? I am from Detroit, MI.

Karen

Detroit, MI

I recommend that you contact a Michigan Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) representative to check out if you need an SR-22 bond in their state. I was unable to see any listing for an SR22 financial responsibility certificate on their website but instead they have listed a Driver Responsibility Fee which is a monetary fee for motorist who are convicted of specific qualifying violation or accumulate 7 or more points on their driving license.

This required fee is being paid to the Michigan state and differ in the amount depending on the driver’s infractions. If you have any questions regarding insurance rule, guidelines or procedures for the state of Michigan you can contact their insurance regulatory body directly.

Where Do I Get Michigan SR22 Insurance

Reader question:

I have gone everywhere I can think of, but nobody will sell me a Michigan SR22 car insurance policy. I need my license already. I need to stop stressing and just drive. What can I do? Do I have any recourse?

Julia

Excellent questions, Julia.

Worry no more. You have the guaranteed ability to get Michigan SR22 insurance if the state requires it of you, although you might not want to take advantage of their options just yet. First of all, ask yourself if you have truly looked as far and wide as you seem to think you have. You might have to talk to an insurance agent to help you out, but you should check the companies which offer high risk policies. At a somewhat higher price, these businesses will insure pretty much anyone, and it’s better than the final resort.

But if not that, then the final resort…which is to phone the Michigan Department of Insurance and ask to apply for their assigned risk statewide pool for auto insurance. You will be placed into the pool, and from their assigned completely at random to any of the licensed companies in the state, who will then have to sell you a Michigan SR22 policy–they won’t do it cheaply, though.

Reader question:

How can I get cheap  Michigan SR22 insurance with no huge deposit or credit score check?

Greg

Glad you asked, Greg.

  1. Take rates from online instant Grand Rapids Michigan SR22 quote sites and set them against each other. Take a few of the best ones you have in that little set, and do a little more work on them. Find out what the companies are about, what kinds of discounts they offer, if the quote from the company website matches the original quote, what kind of coverage extras they have, what their complaint ratio is from the Grand Rapids Michigan SR22 Department of Insurance, what their financial stability rating is.
  2. Narrow down your search to the ones you have gotten positive results from. You can save money by picking the company which allows you to buy Grand Rapids Michigan SR22 insurance online with a discount.

Auto Insurance in Michigan For SR22

Reader question:

I am supposed to get SR22 auto insurance.  I’m not used to having insurance…which is kind of what got me into this mess in the first place, getting caught driving uninsured and stuff. So I guess I need to know more like…what insurance do I ask for?

Dillan

Detroit Michigan

Thanks for asking, Dillan.

SR22 auto insurance is no fault insurance, which makes it a little more complicated than the rest, but still not too difficult for a (belated) newcomer to understand. There are four types of no fault insurance: property damage liability, bodily injury liability, personal injury protection, and property protection. The first two cover any injuries or physical damages to the person in the other car or their property, while the second two are all about you. All are mandatory.

Personal injury protection is excellent in that, not only does it cover your medical bills, but it also pays you for any wages you lose while you are injured. As for property protection, its coverage limit is extremely high–one million dollars. Problem is that it only works in Michigan, so if you’re going to take your  SR22 coverage out of state, you might need a plan B.

How To Get Cheaper Michigan SR22 Insurance

Reader question:

I’m moving next week and have been getting some preliminary quotes from auto insurance companies for SR22 DUI coverage, and they’re so much lower than my current ones. I mean, I don’t mean to complain, but what happened? How do I make it happen again?

Jaime

Glad you asked, Jaime.

Glad to hear that you were able to get a cheaper SR22 insurance coverage in Michigan. While I can only go by the circumstances you have revealed to me, I would wager a bet that the reason you saw your car insurance premium rates drop so much is because of your move. Now, I’m sure you expected some difference due to a change in area, but you came off as surprised. The reason is that while changing locations but staying in the same setting (i.e. moving from one part of the city to another) may change your premiums slightly, if you move to a different setting (i.e. city to suburbs, suburbs to rural), you will see your rates change more drastically.

One of the reasons for this is because if you are in the city, your Michigan SR22 rates are higher because of crime and traffic. Traffic causes problems in that it makes the instance of car accidents much higher due to the proximity of cars on the road, whereas crime raises comprehensive claims due to car vandalism and theft. So, basically, if you want to happen again, just move as far out into the middle of nowhere as you can.

Cheers,
