Michigan SR22 For Non Owner

Reader question:

I am the owner of a Sterling Heights Michigan SR22 policy for non owners. I have been paying on this policy for several months, but the amount I pay just seems to high. How can a non owner driver save a buck?

Jim

Thanks for asking, Jim.

While I have to admit there are many times more ways for someone who has their own vehicle to save money on their car insurance, car insurance companies, especially ones that offer Sterling Heights Michigan policies for non owners, do not completely ignore those who operate vehicles which are not their own. A lot of the discounts and savings need vehicles, but there are still others open to you:

  • This is a simple one: pare down your coverage do the minimum that Michigan requires, and your Sterling Heights Michigan SR22 premiums will cost less
  • Switch companies for one of your insurances. If your auto insurance company offers life insurance, move your life insurance there, so you can get the multi policy saving
  • Compare rates online before settling for a non owner insurance company

Where Do I Get Michigan SR22 Insurance

Reader question:

I have gone everywhere I can think of, but nobody will sell me a Michigan SR22 car insurance policy. I need my license already. I need to stop stressing and just drive. What can I do? Do I have any recourse?

Julia

Excellent questions, Julia.

Worry no more. You have the guaranteed ability to get Michigan SR22 insurance if the state requires it of you, although you might not want to take advantage of their options just yet. First of all, ask yourself if you have truly looked as far and wide as you seem to think you have. You might have to talk to an insurance agent to help you out, but you should check the companies which offer high risk policies. At a somewhat higher price, these businesses will insure pretty much anyone, and it’s better than the final resort.

But if not that, then the final resort…which is to phone the Michigan Department of Insurance and ask to apply for their assigned risk statewide pool for auto insurance. You will be placed into the pool, and from their assigned completely at random to any of the licensed companies in the state, who will then have to sell you a Michigan SR22 policy–they won’t do it cheaply, though.

Michigan SR22 For Teen Driver – Cheap Rates Now

Reader question:

My teen…I wish I didn’t even have to say it, it makes me so mad…has to get Michigan SR22 filed because he was caught driving drunk. I would love to take his car away from him, but I’m stuck because he has a job and if he doesn’t save money from his job, he loses college money, and I know it won’t help at all to punish him by making it harder for him to attend a good college. But I pay for his insurance now. How can I get this on the cheap?

Melanie

Great question, Melanie.

Sorry to hear you’re in that situation. I would be furious too. But, you have to make the best of it. To be honest, if I were in your position, I would just make him pay for his own insurance and let him walk to work. If the walk is to far, then I’d let him quit that job and find one closer. That way he doesn’t sacrifice anything.

Still, you might not be inclined to do that, so I’ll throw you a line. There is a way that you can lower your rates for Michigan SR22 insurance while still laying the hammer on him. He has a job and school? All right, so you make sure that every free moment he has is spent either studying or in class. Here’s what I mean.

A lot of Michigan SR22 companies have a discount for good students. This can be up to 25%–that’s a lot, eh? If your son can pull a B average, he can get this.

Secondly, he needs a defensive driving class anyway, so enroll him in one. Now, if he is already required to take one, then this won’t have any effect on the insurance premium of yours, but if he isn’t required, then you can get a discount.

Reader question:

How can I get cheap  Michigan SR22 insurance with no huge deposit or credit score check?

Greg

Glad you asked, Greg.

  1. Take rates from online instant Grand Rapids Michigan SR22 quote sites and set them against each other. Take a few of the best ones you have in that little set, and do a little more work on them. Find out what the companies are about, what kinds of discounts they offer, if the quote from the company website matches the original quote, what kind of coverage extras they have, what their complaint ratio is from the Grand Rapids Michigan SR22 Department of Insurance, what their financial stability rating is.
  2. Narrow down your search to the ones you have gotten positive results from. You can save money by picking the company which allows you to buy Grand Rapids Michigan SR22 insurance online with a discount.

Auto Insurance in Michigan For SR22

Reader question:

I am supposed to get SR22 auto insurance.  I’m not used to having insurance…which is kind of what got me into this mess in the first place, getting caught driving uninsured and stuff. So I guess I need to know more like…what insurance do I ask for?

Dillan

Detroit Michigan

Thanks for asking, Dillan.

SR22 auto insurance is no fault insurance, which makes it a little more complicated than the rest, but still not too difficult for a (belated) newcomer to understand. There are four types of no fault insurance: property damage liability, bodily injury liability, personal injury protection, and property protection. The first two cover any injuries or physical damages to the person in the other car or their property, while the second two are all about you. All are mandatory.

Personal injury protection is excellent in that, not only does it cover your medical bills, but it also pays you for any wages you lose while you are injured. As for property protection, its coverage limit is extremely high–one million dollars. Problem is that it only works in Michigan, so if you’re going to take your  SR22 coverage out of state, you might need a plan B.

How To Get Cheaper Michigan SR22 Insurance

Reader question:

I’m moving next week and have been getting some preliminary quotes from auto insurance companies for SR22 DUI coverage, and they’re so much lower than my current ones. I mean, I don’t mean to complain, but what happened? How do I make it happen again?

Jaime

Glad you asked, Jaime.

Glad to hear that you were able to get a cheaper SR22 insurance coverage in Michigan. While I can only go by the circumstances you have revealed to me, I would wager a bet that the reason you saw your car insurance premium rates drop so much is because of your move. Now, I’m sure you expected some difference due to a change in area, but you came off as surprised. The reason is that while changing locations but staying in the same setting (i.e. moving from one part of the city to another) may change your premiums slightly, if you move to a different setting (i.e. city to suburbs, suburbs to rural), you will see your rates change more drastically.

One of the reasons for this is because if you are in the city, your Michigan SR22 rates are higher because of crime and traffic. Traffic causes problems in that it makes the instance of car accidents much higher due to the proximity of cars on the road, whereas crime raises comprehensive claims due to car vandalism and theft. So, basically, if you want to happen again, just move as far out into the middle of nowhere as you can.
